Bali is known for its beautiful beaches and relaxing atmosphere that visitors from all over the world flock over to experience. But with 140 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of 20th April 2020, Bali’s otherwise chill vibe has been punctuated with an unusual tension.

However, despite social restrictions, Bali’s beaches haven’t been empty and even private indoor parties were still happening well after the initial stay-at-home orders. So in an effort to curb the spread of the virus, Bali officials made their message loud and clear by hopping on a tractor to urge beachgoers to stay inside.

Kedonganan Beach attracted visitors despite COVID-19

One would think that a viral tweet about a private party followed by lots of angry comments by netizens would be enough to make people rethink doing group activities in the middle of a pandemic. But people still went sunbathing at Kedonganan Beach in Badung, Bali, despite it being temporarily closed.

Signs have been put up at beaches across Bali, but apparently they’re not enough to keep tourists from getting some Vitamin D and Vitamin…Sea.

Since written warnings proved to be ineffective, officials turned to a trusty tractor to usher people back inside. They also had to canvas the coast on foot with a megaphone in hand to give an additional verbal reminder for tourists to leave.

It is not easy for Balinese communities to take such measures to keep tourists indoors, as the island’s economy has been built on a bustling tourism industry.
