Broadway In Alam Sutera Has Retro US Vibes, A Food Street & A Thrift Shop Where You Can Score Pre-Loved Items

Broadway in Alam Sutera

With COVID-19 making international travel off the table for the foreseeable future, that longing for that feeling of being abroad isn’t going to go away anytime soon. Thankfully, we’ve got places like Pantjoran PIK to temper our yearning for proper Chinatown and now, Broadway in Alam Sutera is poised to bring retro US vibes to Jakarta.

This new area in the F&B center Flavor Bliss, Alam Sutera, has a huge street lined with shops that looks straight out of a movie set and an eclectic thrift shop full of pre-loved vintage items.

Alfresco dining with retro US aesthetic

While it is named after New York City’s famed theater district, the aesthetic leans closer to small-town United States. If you’ve ever wondered how it would feel to take a walk around Stars Hollow of the iconic TV show Gilmore Girls, you’d definitely feel right at home here.

The arrangement is a mix of indoor and alfresco dining but if you prefer to eat while walking like they so often do in NYC, you can do that too. Among the tenants here are Carnerito with tacos and burritos to go and the rice bowl chain Dailybox, known for their collaboration with celebrity chefs Juna Rorimpandey and Renatta Moeloek.

Jakarta’s hot and humid weather might make outdoor dining a bit impractical during the day, but come dinner time, the lights they’ve set up around the street are just too pretty to pass up.

Once your tummies have had their fill, head on over to the Vintage Vibes thrift shop that’s nearly impossible to miss thanks to its facade, modeled after classic US movie theatres.

Hunting for pre-loved vintage goods

As with any thrift shop, Vintage Vibes’ collection is highly eclectic, from fashion to old books to furniture to classic posters. It’s always fun to check out what treasures might lie in wait here – just make sure to have some sense of self-control at the ready when you walk in.

While they do curate all of the goods sold in the shop, as with any thrift shop, a keen eye is probably going to be useful here. If you’re thinking of offloading some of your stuff, you can bring them here for appraisal but note that the staff may not accept everything you throw at them.

Even when you have no plans to buy or sell anything, we still recommend checking out the photo spots spread around the shop. Vintage Vibes isn’t just the name of the store, but aptly describes the items you’ll see here – which fans of retro aesthetics might want to spend quite a bit of time checking out.

Retro US vibes in Broadway in Alam Sutera

Broadway has been open since October 2020 but some of the tenants are still closed until the official soft opening on 20th November. As we’re officially still in the middle of the PSBB transition period, visitors must fill out a short medical form first before entering the premises.

A little warning though, Broadway has been drawing quite a crowd even before the opening – so if you’re thinking of going, make sure to stay safe and abide by the physical distancing rules.
