Influencer Upcycles Indomie & Chitato Packaging Into Chic Clothing & Handbags, Netizens Want To Buy Them

Influencer upcycled used snack packaging into fashionable items

Most people don’t think twice about throwing away used packaging – after all, it’s considered as trash. But for upcycling enthusiasts, used packaging can be used to create some rather creative things.

One such person is US-Indonesian influencer, Putri Samboda, who has recently been making headlines for her creative upcycling projects that turn empty packets of food popular in Indonesia from brands such as Indomie, Chitato, Khong Guan, and even McDonald’s into chic clothing, handbags, and even shoes.

Putri is also known to modify her designer pieces such as Louis Vuitton bags, Chanel, and Fendi shoes using empty wrappers and packaging, with results leaving netizens in awe.

Creative projects during quarantine

Putri started upcycling packaging materials of popular snacks from 2018. It initially started as a hobby, but the quarantine period in 2020 due to COVID-19 left her with more free time, allowing her to focus more on her creations and uploading pictures of the finished items to her Instagram page.

Since then, she’s attracted a large number of followers including artists and designers, and their positive feedback spurred her to create more of these ingenious fashion pieces.

Two of her more popular creations posted on Instagram are the Indomie shorts and bomber jacket that made her go viral on social media.

Her other popular works are mini tote bags that she upcycled from potato chip packets such as Chitato and Lay’s wrappers, and loafers made from McDonald’s paper bags.

Putri has also modified a few of her designer pieces; her Louis Vuitton handbag, for one, was modified with the straps of a popular local flip-flop brand, Swallow, and her Fendi kitten heels with White Rabbit candy wrappers.

Although the items are not for sale, as stated on Putri’s Instagram profile bio-data, netizens seem to want to get their hands on these innovative pieces. Putri has teased her Instagram followers on a possible fashion line, but no official announcements have been made so far.

Upcycled used snack packaging becomes statement pieces

Putri’s creations not only showcase her upcycling skills, but they also prove that one man’s trash is another’s treasure. With how chic her upcycled used snack packaging pieces look, it’s no wonder that netizens are asking her to put up the items for sale, so they can get their hands on these unique one-of-a-kind fashion pieces.
