Ah, red meat. Whether you’re more of a tenderloin or ribeye kind of person, no bonafide foodies can ever resist the temptation of quality steak. Of course, there’s a very fine line between a properly cooked, juicy steak and a leathery, bland overdone steak and we think there’s no crime bigger than wasting a perfect cut of wagyu ribeye.
Luckily, you won’t find any of those crimes against humanity in our pick of 8 steakhouses in Jakarta. From Argentine-style steaks to premium, dry-aged beef, carnivores craving proper red meat should look no further than these gems.
The humble and unpretentious Local Tenderloin with mashed potatoes and garden veggies, just like how a proper steak should be

Thanks to Abuba Steak, you no longer have to wait for your next paycheck to drop to have some quality red meat. This local and highly affordable group of steakhouses in Jakarta began with a humble shop in the culinary haven that is Jalan Cipete but has now expanded with locations spread all over the city.
If you think that the only thing our local cattle is good for is rendang, Abuba would be happy to correct you. While they serve more premium cattle such as wagyu, we prefer going for the Local Tenderloin (Rp. 78,000, ~USD5,54), served with a side of fries, mixed veggies, and a sauce of your choice, to get the best back for our buck.
Credit where they’re due – we applaud Abuba for making their own barbecue sauce

We also respect Abuba for not doing things halfway with their steak sauce. Instead of going the easy way out and using store-bought sauce, they serve their own homemade mushroom, black pepper, and barbeque sauce.

With a crispy exterior and a bold garlic flavor, we recommend going for the Garlic Herb Potatoes for the side

While we’re of the mind that few culinary experiences can match a proper steak, we realize that red meat isn’t for everyone. If you’re thinking of dining out with this group of people while still satisfying your red meat cravings, the answer lies with B’Steak Grill & Pancake.
Despite the name, this local chain of steakhouses in Jakarta serves much more than just steaks – they also have pancakes, pasta, Japanese teishoku meal sets, to rarities like the Swedish potato pancake, rosti. Even the pickiest of kids would have no problem finding something they’re willing to eat, making B’Steak a perennial family favorite.
Try ordering the Garlic Butter Prawn as an additional side dish for an indulgent surf and turf experience

Thankfully, this variety doesn’t result in them spreading themselves too thin as their Australian Prime Ribeye (Rp. 105,000, ~USD7.47) is just as flavorful as ribeye cuts should be. You still would be spoiled for choice though as each serving of steak comes with a selection of five potato and two vegetable sides, eight choices of sauce, and a piece of garlic bread.

The Black Angus Sirloin is a worthy alternative to the wagyu
For us, a simple slab of properly cooked meat is enough to get us drooling but if you’re the type that prefers a more out-there presentation, Cutt & Grill should be right up your alley. In addition to the standard steaks, Cutt & Grill serves hanging kebabs that look just as exciting as it tastes.
While wagyu tends to be default beef of choice, the Black Angus Sirloin (Rp. 195,000, ~USD13.86), served with a side dish and sauce of your choice, is an excellent alternative. It’s not as illustrious as wagyu but Angus beef has almost as much marbling, and just as tender and flavorful, at a fraction of the price.
Skewered beef, paprika, and jalapeno served with basmati rice and jalapeno sauce

The kebab, on the other hand, is available with a choice of proteins but since it’s the red meat we come here for, our choice falls to the Hanging Beef Kebab (Rp. 170,000, ~USD12.09). In true Middle Eastern style, it’s served with basmati pilaf rice and is paired with jalapeno sauce if you’re looking for that extra kick.
Daytime ambiance with floor-to-ceiling windows at Cutt & Grill Tebet
As of this moment, Cutt & Grill has two steakhouses in Jakarta, namely in Tebet and Senopati, with a third in Alam Sutera set to open soon. While the quality of the food is consistent and both have regular live acoustic music performances, we slightly prefer the Tebet location thanks to their floor-to-ceiling windows and just generally roomier atmosphere.

Slow-grilled and seasoned with salt, the Salt Crusted Beef Ribs are delightfully tender and flavorful enough without sauce
Argentinians consider cooking and eating red meat a national pastime and with such credentials, you’d expect them to know their way around steaks. Based on our experience with La Posta, headed by born-and-bred Argentine head chef Francisco Suarez, nicknamed Pancho, consider those expectations well met.
The Provoleta Grilled Cheese isn’t your typical gooey mozzarella cheese but it still pairs well with the meat
The restaurant serves a selection of both boneless and bone-in steaks but we highly recommend going for their signature Salt Crusted Beef Ribs (Rp. 320,000, ~USD22.74). Perfectly seasoned, these tender ribs can go without your typical steak sauce but in case you’re feeling extra, feel free to order the Provoleta Grilled Cheese (Rp. 160,000, ~USD11.37) as a dip.
Compared to Indonesian pastel, empanadas isn’t as crunchy but has a thicker filling
We would also be irresponsible if we don’t mention their homemade Empanadas (Rp. 30,000, ~USD2.13 per piece), available with various fillings from beef, chicken, and spinach. It’s the ultimate Argentinian comfort food and it feels right at home with La Posta’s upscale, yet delightfully homey ambiance.

Catch up with your friends over the Mixed Platter with ribs and El Asador’s homemade sausages
Substituting La Posta’s upscale ambiance for a more laid-back, communal vibe, El Asador embodies the South American philosophy of asado, a free-for-all BBQ usually held as a social event.
Here, the buffet is cooked first on the restaurant’s open-fire grill called parilla before being brought over to the table on a hot plate. In keeping with the asado tradition, we recommend going for the Mixed Platter (Rp. 490,000, ~USD34.84) which includes chicken, ribs, and El Asador’s homemade sausages.
Make sure to check out the open-fire grill just behind the counter before you leave

If you’re feeling particularly famished, it’s the All You Can Eat Premium (Rp. 590,000, ~USD41.89) you’ll want to shoot for. It comes with a bottomless supply of the more premium ribeye, tenderloin, and sirloin cuts which should be enough to fill up your red meat quota for an entire year.
As a side note, try out the steakhouse’s trademark chimichurri sauce, available in both mild green and spicy red variants for those desiring for more heat.

The sizzling melted butter underneath the steak is part of what makes it special
Imported straight from the USA, Ruth’s Chris Steak House began in New Orleans and is famous for their sizzling plates of steak and we mean that literally. In Ruth’s Chris, the meat is cooked in a 9800C oven before being served on a 2600C hot plate with a big dollop of melted butter.
Sure, Ruth’s Chris isn’t the only steakhouse that serves butter with their steaks but it’s their way of serving that makes them unique. It’s not just for show either and the combination of extra hot temperature and melted butter is what makes their steaks so flavorful that you won’t be left wanting for sauce.
The crab cake is one of Ruth’s Chris most popular side dishes, served with sprinkles of lemon butter sauce
As usual, the Ribeye (Rp. 650,000, ~USD46.19) cut is our default recommendation here, using USDA Prime quality beef. To complete the meal, order your steak Oscar Style (Rp. 140,000, ~USD9.95) which comes with a side of asparagus and Ruth’s Chris’ signature crab cakes.

If the wagyu isn’t enough, you can always mix it with salmon like this drool-worthy plate
Not content with simply providing a feast for your tummy, Benihana Japanese Steakhouse instead goes for the dinner and a show philosophy. Modeled after the teppanyaki–style cuisine of modern Japan, part of the attraction here is seeing the chef’s performance at the grill, which for better or worse, is always filled with banter and dad-quality attempts at comedy.
Watching the chefs dancing around the fried rice with their spatulas is quite a religious experience
As it is, Benihana is pretty much a communal experience and watching the chef cooking the heart-shaped Garlic Chicken Fried Rice (Rp. 45,000, ~USD3.20) works best when you’re with a group.
While Benihana also serves Japanese staples such as sushi, the main star is still the Wagyu Tenderloin Set (Rp. 810,000, ~USD57.58) using premium Australian Wagyu Grade 7+ beef. The set meal comes with onion soup, salad, shrimp, and vegetable and we especially love their homemade sauces, with the ginger sauce paired with the veggies and mustard sauce for the beef.

The seasoning in the Cajun Ribeye is nicely balanced and doesn’t overwhelm the meat and can be ordered in a thicker double cut
Having made its name as one of Manhattan’s finest steakhouses, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse landed in Jakarta in early 2020 with their dry-aged USDA Prime steaks in tow. The meat is aged for 4 weeks before being cooked and this process leads to more flavorful and tender steak as a result.
If you’re dining alone, the Rib Eye Steak (Rp. 950,000, ~USD67.50) and German Potatoes (Rp. 120,000, ~USD8.53) combo is always a reliable choice. For those angling for more of a romantic evening, the Porterhouse For Two (Rp. 1,950,000, ~USD138.56) is ideal for lovebirds.
You’re not just paying premium for the quality of the steak but also for the unmatched nighttime rooftop ambiance with a city view
The food is just half of the equation as the steakhouse’s ambiance, located on the rooftop of Elysee in SCBD, is equally excellent. If there’s any better pairing than great steaks with the night lights from the surrounding skyscrapers as a backdrop, we still haven’t found any.
