Learning at home can be as isolating as working from home. And with a majority of schools in Indonesia to remain closed until further notice, parents of young children and teenagers will be looking for online tools to help their kids entertained, with preferably educational activities.
Documentaries can be a great way to improve your general knowledge, and while Netlix has many interesting series, most Indonesian families do not have access to this online streaming platform.
To bridge this gap, Netflix has partnered up with Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture to air six documentary series on TVRI starting this Saturday, 20th June 2020.
On Wednesday, 17th June 2020, Netflix announced via Twitter and Instagram that it will air six of its documentary series – or docuseries – on TVRI every Saturday at 9.30AM starting from 20th June 2020.
Netflix shows being aired on television is unprecedented, so it’s a game-changing step for the online streaming giant. The topics of the chosen documentary series range from nature to food culture.
1. Our Planet
Our Planet showcases the beauty of the Earth and educates the viewer on climate change. It’s a series that the whole family can enjoy, with breathtaking shots of our planet – from icy landscapes to the deep underwater – that not many people get to see in their daily lives.
2. Street Food
Featured on our previous Netflix list, Street Food isn’t only a fun series that shows us what people in a number Asian countries enjoy eating. It also reveals the complexity and evolution of food culture.
3. Tidying Up with Marie Kondo
While it may seem odd that Tidying Up with Marie Kondo made it to this list, this hit series can definitely teach children and parents how to declutter and organize effectively. Parents can try to make tidying up their homes with their kids a fun bonding experience after watching this too.
4. Spelling the Dream
While the Spelling Bee is an American phenomenon, Indonesian children can still learn from the perseverance of the contestants in Spelling the Dream as they make their way to the finale of the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition held yearly in the US.
5. Chasing Coral
Chasing Coral shows how the diverse and beautiful coral reefs in our oceans are disappearing. As we see what’s left of these beauties from the eyes of divers, photographers and marine experts, we learn the importance of preserving our natural wonders.
6. Night on Earth
The title of this docuseries is as straightforward as it can get. If you want to know what animals do once the sun goes down, Night on Earth will give you the answers. Beside featuring well-known animals such as elephants and lions, there are surprising appearances from prawns and scorpions. This was also featured in our Netflix curation.
Books are a vast source of information, but documentaries are equally important in the learning process. Hopefully Indoensian children, as well as parents and educators, will find something valuable from the Netflix series that will be aired on TVRI very soon.
