1. Antipodean Coffee – a cozy neighborhood brunch spot near a supermarket

Antipodean is a cozy neighborhood brunch spot to check out if you’re the type of person who enjoys a laid-back Sunday. It’s located in Kemang’s Hero supermarket compound, so you can also do your weekly grocery shopping after your satisfying meal.

The all-stars of this cafe are the Big Breakfast, complete with mushrooms, toast, scrambled egg, hash browns, and a choice of sausage or bacon, and the All Day Breakfast which is similar but comes with baked beans and grilled tomatoes instead of hash browns and mushrooms. Each dish is Rp. 85,000 (~USD5.99), and there’s also a selection of excellent coffee that starts at Rp. 18,000 (~USD1.27).
Service is quick, the staff is friendly, and the cafe is even dog-friendly so you can have your four-legged fuzzy friend with you as you enjoy a slow Sunday morning.

2. Monolog PIM – big, bright, and airy

The Monolog branch in Pondok Indah Mall (PIM) is more spacious than the one in Plaza Senayan, though both are well-known brunch cafes in Jakarta. It has big windows that let in plenty of natural light and there’s also an outdoor area with lots of plants.
Roomy and family-friendly, it’s an ideal meet-up spot for small and rather big groups, but be sure to make a reservation at least a day in advance.

Monolog has a great all-day breakfast menu, which is perfectly filling for brunch. The Monolog Big Morning (Rp. 108,000, ~USD7.62) really lives up to its name with its generous servings of the restaurant’s signature rustic bread, along with mushrooms, veggies, egg, smoked beef and sausages. If you have a sweet tooth, try the classic French Toast (Rp. 74,000, ~USD5.22).

In the beverage department, there are fresh mixed juices and smoothies such as the Mixed Berries Yogurt (Rp. 64,000, ~USD4.51) with a perfect balance of sweet and sour. There’s also a range of delicious mild to strong coffee to choose from, which starts at Rp. 32,000 (~USD2.26). Ask any of the friendly and helpful staff if you have a hard time deciding.

3. Komunal 88 – a cafe market where you can fill up your own brunch tray

Komunal88 is not your usual restaurant because it’s essentially a cafe market, meaning that in addition to the delicious dishes listed on the menu, you’ll see a lot of goodies such as croissants and danishes on display for you to directly fill up your brunch tray with.

Not only does this place offer top-notch service, but it is also devoted to celebrating the food cultures of culinary meccas such as New York, Italy, Turkey, and the Middle East, just to name a few. It’s reflected in the diversity of the menu.
Ricotta Pancakes

Try the Ricotta Pancakes (Rp. 95,000, ~USD6.70), which is a serving of seven small pancakes with chantilly cream, Nutella and homemade strawberry puree. Or go big and order the Italian Benedict, which comes with poached eggs, prosciutto slices, Komunal 88’s own artisanal bread, and condiments for Rp. 115,000 (~USD8.11).
Despite its international outlook, it doesn’t forget to source locally, especially the coffee that starts at Rp. 25,000 (~USD1.76). 4. Ombé Kofie Cikajang – a soothing atmosphere for a slow Sunday

Ombé Kofie is located in Cikajang, an area popular for its row of cafes and restaurants offering a variety of delicacies. Despite the competition nearby, Ombé stands its ground for being a cute, cozy cafe with a warm atmosphere ideal for a Sunday brunch session. It’s suitable for all ages, so you can enjoy a nice meal there with your loved ones.

If you’ve decided to go out for brunch, it’d only make sense to go for something wholesome such as the Ombé Big Breakfast (Rp. 85,000, ~USD5.99), which comes with sourdough toast, a choice of bacon or smoked beef, hash browns, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and egg cooked to your liking. You can also order a Monte Cristo (Rp. 70,000, ~USD4.94), which is a cheese sandwich with three layers of smoked beef and a side order of fresh salad and fries.

5. Egghotel – a tropical brunch with a view

Egghotel is almost like a secret getaway because it’s located on the rooftop of a kost called Suites at Seven. You’ll get to take in the view of Kuningan as sunlight seeps in through the large windows, or sit outside to feel the rare calming ambience of Jakarta that you can only feel on the weekends.

Egghotel boasts unique dishes that bring tropical flavors to the fore. The Cold Rice Brekkie (Rp. 82,000, ~USD5.78), for example, is brown rice served with an array of ingredients such as poached salak, yogurt, seasonal tropical fruit and nuts. Fans of eggs benedict should try the Hey, Benny! which is served with Indian lentil curry, roti prata, grilled chicken tikka masala and cucumber salad (Rp. 98,000, ~USD6.91).

8. 1/15 Coffee Menteng – a homey cafe for all ages

Unlike the minimalistic look of other 1/15 Coffee branches, the one in Menteng has a more homey feeling as it’s in a Dutch colonial-style house typical of the area. A beautiful outdoor area makes it more appealing for those who want to get a dose of Vitamin D.
