Drive-thru weddings in Cirebon

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to make radical changes to our day-to-day habits. In just a matter of months, we have developed new ways to work, study, and socialize. With the pandemic still looming, Indonesians are creatively adjusting their important life events such as weddings to keep everyone safe while including them in the celebration.

While huge weddings are customary in Indonesia, due to COVID-19, couples thinking of tying the knot will have to celebrate the moment differently. Metland Hotel in Cirebon, West Java has started to offer drive-thru wedding packages – possibly kicking off a whole new wedding trend in Indonesia.

Getting married in the middle of the pandemic might sound like a challenge, but even though you can’t invite as many people as you probably would without COVID-19 hanging about, small weddings might just be the next new thing.

Located in Cirebon, West Java, Metland Hotel offers a convenient drive-thru wedding package that includes an intimate wedding ceremony for 30 people and a drive-thru reception for up to 250 guests.

While holding a reception in a hotel parking lot as your guests wave and take pictures of you and your partner from their cars might sound anything but romantic, the hotel provides a wedding dais complete with flowers and a backdrop to mark the occasion. The fact that couples are still willing to share one of their most heartfelt moments without the usual full celebrations also does warm the heart quite a bit.

Guests can gift money to the happy couple through a QR code, and they will receive a food box and a wedding souvenir to take home.

The whole package costs Rp. 35,000,000 (~USD2,478) – an affordable price for a wedding.

Keeping everyone’s health in mind with a drive-thru wedding

To keep everyone safe from COVID-19, hotel staff wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) will check the temperatures of all guests before they get to drive up to the couple.

A drive-thru wedding might not be a conventional dream wedding, but at the end of the day, what matters is caring for those you love most while still being able to celebrate you and your partner’s big day.
