Miss Universe Indonesia Ayu Maulida Putri reveals Komodo dragon-themed national costume
With the 69th Miss Universe pageant less than a month away, the nation is getting ready to cheer for our representative Rr. Ayu Maulida Putri as she makes her bid for the crown.
As always, we were greatly looking forward to seeing what our Puteri Indonesia has up her sleeve while gearing up for the world’s biggest pageant, and we were not disappointed to see what was revealed at Ayu’s press conference on Thursday, 22nd April 2021.
Among Ayu’s ensemble for this year’s Miss Universe is a Komodo dragon-themed national costume, guaranteed to impress the judges and audience alike as Ayu brings the world’s largest lizard to the center stage at the pageant.
The costume consists of over 5,000 scales and has a microcontroller

The costume, designed by Diana M. Putri in collaboration with Yuling Hoo and Silvy Prajogo from Le Ciel Design, boasts over 5,000 scales made from rustic gold, copper, and black gold metal pieces, with the handmade headpiece and tail created from laser-cut leather.

The costume also has a microcontroller used to move the headpiece as well as a LED controller that can light up the chokers and gloves, giving it a fiery light effect that is sure to illuminate the stage.
Ayu also revealed an Ijen Crater-inspired evening gown

Another essential element of the Miss Universe pageant is the evening gown portion, and Ayu promises to wow everyone with a blue gown inspired by the Ijen Crater, a crater famous for its blue flames located in Ayu’s home province of East Java.

The tight-fitting gown, also designed by Diana M. Putri, is adorned with royal blue and gold Swarovski crystals to resemble the famous blue flames it’s inspired by.

With what has been revealed so far, it comes as no surprise that expectations are high for Ayu’s Miss Universe journey, especially considering that our previous bet for the pageant, Frederika Alexis Cull, managed to reach the top 10 in 2019 – our highest placement at the Miss Universe pageant to date.
The 69th Miss Universe will be held in Hollywood, Florida, USA on 16th May 2021, and we wish Ayu the best of luck as she starts her journey to make our country proud.
