Coworking spaces in Bali

The island getaway destination of Bali has been traditionally known as the territory of all play and no work, but it might be time to rethink that reputation. With COVID-19 rendering the traditional arrangement of 9 to 5 at the office somewhat obsolete, the lifestyle of the so-called digital nomads of Bali seems to make a lot more sense now.

For freelancers and remote workers looking to make the most of their flexible arrangements, these 10 coworking spaces in Bali will help you maintain your productivity while the island’s many stunning beaches are never more than minutes away when you’re in need of a change of pace.

1. Outpost – coliving space for those looking for a place to stay

Some say that the separation of the professional and the personal is the key to leading a healthy life. For us, we actually like to mix a little bit of both and if you’re aligned with our way of thinking, you might find there’s lots to love in Outpost’s coliving arrangements.

In lieu of merely providing shared office space, Outpost instead goes the extra mile by offering room and board, saving you the effort of having to look up nearby Airbnbs. For those familiar with the pain of having to regularly commute to and from work, there’s little worry of having to deal with headache-inducing traffic if your living space doubles as your working space.

Workspace-only passes are also available but nocturnal animals might be interested to know that 24/7 access to the workspace is restricted to Outpost residents only.

As of now, Outpost has three locations spread around Bali — 1 in Canggu for beachcombers and 2 further inland in Ubud’s quiet rice fields. This doesn’t mean you have to choose, though, as one Outpost membership covers access to all three locations, encouraging you to hop from one location to another for a change of scenery.

2. Kinship Studio – creative haven with a photo studio on-site

bali coworking spaces - kinship studio
Transformed from an old garment factory, Kinship Studio looks more like an artist’s studio rather than a coworking space

With its exposed concrete and high ceiling carried over from the building’s past as a garment factory, the vibe in Kinship Studio is closer to Andy Warhol’s studio than a coworking space. It is perhaps fate that the workspace has turned into something of a haven for creatives, with the on-site photo studio being one of its calling cards.

bali coworking spaces - kinship studio workshop

From macro product shots to fashion shoots, Kinship’s photo studio is available for your creative needs starting at an hourly rate of Rp. 350,000 (~USD24.22). If you’re looking for an expert eye behind the lens, Kinship would be more than willing to put you in touch with one of the many professional photographers in their circles.

For those looking to network, Kinship pass holders get the benefit of free entry to workshops and other seminars held in their event space. And in case the beaches of Bali aren’t enough to stave off your typical Monday blues, the studio’s weekly yoga sessions might just be what you need to relieve some of that stress.

3. Finns Recreation Club – work and play option by the group behind Finns Beach Club

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy but there’s no worry of that if you hold a membership card to Finns Recreation Club. Coming from the same group of people behind the famed bamboo lounges of Finns Beach Club, mixing business with pleasure is practically encouraged here.

If you’re deprived of Vitamin D, the outdoor lounge could also be used as a working area

Outlining all of the perks you’re getting with just one membership card would take all day so we recommend you to check the list out for yourself. Just to name some off the tops of our heads, the standard Lifestyle membership includes access to the gym, the swimming pool, and the tennis court on top of the coworking space and beach club.

Owing to its comprehensive facilities, there’s much flexibility to be had in Finns, with an outdoor lounge and bistro doubling also as a working space. If you’re more of the introverted type though, you’ll find great comfort within the club’s quiet library where no crowded Zoom meetings will ever break your concentration.

One potential downside in living the untethered lifestyle of a digital nomad is that there are months when being frugal is mandatory. Thankfully, with Hub Bali’s affordable coworking spaces in Bali, there’s no need for you to sacrifice your working arrangements in your penny-pinching pursuits.

Despite the price point from just Rp. 100,000 (~USD6.92) a day, Hub punches well above its weight, with niceties such as a private locker, printer, and the usual coffee and tea, included in the package. For programmers needing extra screen real estate, Hub also provides complimentary 22” LCD monitors, subject to availability, if you’re looking to have a dual monitor setup of your own.

Conveniently, Hub shares space with the Sara Residence apartment hotel and coliving packages available if you’re looking to cut down on commute time. 5. Tropical Nomad – balcony with a view of scenic rice fields

bali coworking spaces - tropical nomad
Both indoors and outdoors, there’s always greenery to be found in Tropical Nomad

Studies have shown that simply adding a touch of nature into your workspace increases productivity. In that case, we don’t think you can do better than Tropical Nomad as with coconut trees lining the yard and a scenic rice field just beyond, the coworking space is practically intertwined with nature.

Sitting by the infamous Canggu Shortcut, the narrow road that equally delights and infuriates locals due to the lovely scenery and horrendous traffic, Tropical Nomad thankfully has all of the former and much less of the latter.

The compound’s combination of high ceilings and plenty of natural light is the perfect antidote for your Monday blues. And if you’re feeling the need for a change of scenery, either the second-floor balcony, with a lovely view of the surrounding rice fields, or the tree-lined garden will do wonders for your mood.

Aside from the excellent working space, Tropical Nomad also takes the ‘co’ part of coworking seriously. They regularly hold members-only lunch and dinner events, either at their own backyard or at other venues, where you can mingle and chat up your fellow nomads and perhaps plan out a collaboration in the future.

From standard desks, couches, and booth seats, GoWork impresses with their variety of seating arrangements

As one of the country’s leading coworking space providers, it’s only natural for GoWork to finally make landfall in Bali, the unofficial nomadic hub of Indonesia. Similar to most of their spaces in Jakarta, their Bali coworking space sits inside a shopping mall — the Park 23 mall in Kuta, to be precise.

Inside, the space is just as tastefully designed as their locations in Jakarta, with warm wooden furnishing that looks straight out of a Pinterest board. It’s one of the biggest coworking spaces in Bali of its kind too with all of the amenities you’d expect from GoWork, with dedicated phone booths for your Zoom meetings and a row of hanging chairs if you’re looking to get some shut-eye.

Now, while the Park 23 mall isn’t the busiest shopping center on the island, it still provides you with easy access to all of your daily shopping needs. There’s the Foodhall supermarket for your daily grocery needs, plenty of F&B options, and even a movie theatre for you to keep up with the latest from Hollywood.

8. Dojo Bali (closing 3rd Dec 2022) – Canggu’s first coworking space with special prices for local ID holders

bali coworking spaces - dojo bali
With beanbags and desk set up by the pool, working at Dojo doesn’t feel like work

Note: Dojo Bali is closing on 3rd December 2022.

As Canggu’s premier coworking space, and one of the island’s firsts, Dojo’s name has long been a known quantity among the island’s nomads. While it has a reputation for catering mostly to expats, Dojo’s 50% discount for all Indonesian ID cardholders, or KTP, also makes it a favorite among local freelancers and remote workers.

As one of the most popular venues of its kind in Bali, Dojo’s seats are rarely empty

The compound offers a balanced mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, and we personally love the poolside area, with both beanbags and desks available by the pool. Dojo is also known for its blazing fast internet access and for the less technically minded, their IT support team is always ready to assist you with your troubleshooting issues.

Before COVID-19 turned our world upside down, membership to Dojo also bestowed access to their partner up north, Hubud, the island’s first coworking space. Sadly, Hubud still hasn’t reopened its doors yet but the signature Dojo SuperPass still has many benefits of its own, including credit for Amazon Web Services and discounts on dozens of local businesses.

Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan No.88, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
Opening hours: 8AM-12PM, Daily
Telephone: 0813 38242424

9. Biliq – fully furnished private office for startup founders

bali coworking spaces - biliq
If you’re looking to turn your ideas into tech unicorns, Biliq’s private office might just be what you need

While Bill Gates and Paul Allen were able to start a billion-dollar business from a small garage, we think your origin story could use a better venue. For your team of dedicated innovators, we recommend checking out Biliq’s private office, furnished with desks and ergonomic chairs with 24-hour daily access for the sake of bringing your idea to fruition.

As long as you’re careful, there’s no better place to work than at Biliq’s pool

We’re particularly a fan of their Seminyak space, where there’s a small table by the pool where you can work while literally dipping your toes in the water. As private office packages include access to the common area, the pool provides a perfect change of scenery and who knows, chatting up the other nomads might provide you with the stroke of inspiration you need.
